Claire Capper talks second-hand demand

Helping to drive the circular economy, IEG Winsford gives a second life to containers that would otherwise be sent to scrap. The team buys back used containers, restores them to their former glory, and ensures they meet all the necessary standards and health and safety requirements. Recently, more customers have been opting for second-hand containers, including four-wheeled metal containers, FELs (front-end loaders), RELs (rear-end loaders), skips, and roll-on roll-off (RORO) containers.

Every refurbished container goes through a thorough process. It’s repaired, fitted with any new parts needed, shotblasted for a tougher and more polished finish, and then resprayed with eco-friendly, lead-free anti-corrosive paint.

UKCM’s friendly team also works closely with customers to accommodate any special design requests, like adding company branding or using specific corporate colours.

Claire Capper, Operations Director at IEG Winsford, shares, “It’s fantastic to see more customers choosing second-hand containers alongside new ones. These fully refurbished options help reduce costs while still offering high quality and durability.”

Pete Dickson, Commercial Director at IEG EMEA, adds, “As the push to reuse and recycle continues to grow, UKCM is proud to play a part in reducing waste by breathing new life into old containers. It’s great to see more businesses and local authorities benefitting from our services that not only extend the lifespan of containers but also help them stay compliant, maximise their use, and save money.”

IEG’s commitment to sustainability is clear, offering mobile repairs and factory-based services across the country, with their head office based in Cheshire. Over the last 26 years, our Winsford site has saved customers a remarkable £271 million by repairing and refurbishing 1.8 million waste and recycling containers.
