The wonder of the weld: a day in the life of Lee McDermott

I’ve been at Egbert Taylor for over 20 years and I can honestly say that there’s no other manufacturer that welds to the quality we do. The whole team are time-served welders, all trained to NVQ Level 2 and above, and the intricate work that everyone can do is something that I still find impressive even to this day. It’s also this level of craftsmanship that sees us winning major orders from prominent brands such as Nissan and local authorities nationwide on a regular basis. It’s an early start, particularly for me, as I need to be onsite at 5.30am…

We’ve heard a number of rumours circulating about a lack of steel in the UK. Whoever’s talking about a steel shortage mustn’t have visited our Droitwich manufacturing site.

    Bin Brief – Summer 2021

After what’s been a pretty wet summer, the sun is finally out. And, just as the weather continues to heat up, so too is activity at our factory as local authorities begin to get everything ready as the nation moves towards a less restrictive period. On that point, I’d like to take the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to our customers for their continued support.

  • STREET SMART UPGRADE FOR EAST ENGLAND COUNCIL

STREET SMART UPGRADE FOR EAST ENGLAND COUNCIL

Huntingdonshire District Council has taken steps to make its waste collection budget work harder after converting 360 of its traditional 110 litre litter bins into smart bins using the latest fill sensor technology. The decision will see almost a third of the council’s 1,200 public litterbins fitted with fill level sensors, which have been supplied by Egbert Taylor and provide up-to-the-minute updates on how full each litterbin is and whether or not it needs emptying. There are currently 100 sensor-equipped litterbins in place following a trial last year, which saw collections reduced from what would have been 13,200 to 9,651…

Cost effective bin procurement in a post-Covid world

By Mark Jenkins, Sales Director at Egbert Taylor By now, there can’t be many people under the illusion that things are going to be easy over the coming weeks, months and even years. The government has implemented a number of commendable measures since March, with the furlough scheme being particularly notable. However, what goes up must come down, and in the case of huge government spending, the money required to pay back the loans will need to come from somewhere. For context, the government had expected to borrow £55bn for the year; we’re currently at £208.5bn and that figure continues…

EGBERT TAYLOR NAMED NATIONAL RECYCLING AWARDS FINALIST

Egbert Taylor and South Ayrshire Council will join illustrious businesses and organisations at the National Recycling Awards 2020, which takes place on 15 December, after both organisations were today announced as joint finalists for the Partnership Excellence – Public/Private Sector Award. Both organisations were shortlisted following a successful partnership initiative that delivered huge recycling gains for South Ayrshire. Combining Egbert Taylor’s patented T-Lock system, which enables bin lids to automatically lock when depressed, and its Lid in Lid with restricted aperture solution, South Ayrshire Council was able to deliver an overall contamination reduction of 35 per cent. Prior to the…

Win while you’re binning: the case for smart waste collection

by Emmett Reidy, Business Development Director at Egbert Taylor I’ve been working in the disruptive waste technology market for over a decade now, and during that time the bin and market has changed – considerably, I am glad to say. With the advancement in cellular and battery technology, as well as Local Authorities’ openness to embrace and integrate technology into their day to day operations, technology, data and efficiencies are no longer scary words but expectations when looking to meet current environmental demands. The bin has gone from being a simple container to becoming an integral part of the IoT…

    EGBERT TAYLOR REPORTS GROWTH

24th March 2020 Worcester-based container manufacturer, Egbert Taylor, has revealed business growth of 4.4 per cent after the firm boosted revenue from £12.8m in 2018 to £13.4m in 2019 and reported an EBITDA of £753,000. These positive results were achieved by focusing on ‘growing turnover, sustained gross margins and tight controls over operating costs and overheads’, according to CEO Brendan Murphy. Egbert Taylor’s announcement comes as many UK manufacturers battle with supply chain issues and the inadequate provision of raw materials from overseas as a direct result of the Coronavirus pandemic. On reporting a positive year for the firm, Brendan…

    EGBERT TAYLOR APPOINTS CHAIRMAN

Worcester container manufacturer, Egbert Taylor, has appointed longstanding waste industry specialist and former Dennis Eagle CEO, Mike Molesworth, as Chairman. The move supports the firm’s ambitious growth plans and is expected to help reaffirm Egbert Taylor’s position as the UK’s primary producer of premium steel containers. Mike, a prominent figure within the waste sector, led Dennis Eagle’s growth trajectory from 2000 to 2013. This included a period where he headed up Ros Roca Environment’s European business, which purchased Dennis Eagle in 2006. From 2013 until retiring in the middle of last year, Mike was on the group board and latterly…

Dundee Bins are pretty as a picture after school competition winners revealed

Egbert Taylor and Dundee City Council have announced the names of schoolchildren whose art will now adorn bins located on the streets of Dundee after they won a Dundee-wide school competition. The creative competition, which called for budding artists to design a recycling-themed piece of art asking the public to correctly dispose of their waste, launched in May to all primary schools located within Dundee’s eight wards. Six primary school winners aged between 10 and 11 were presented with an art set and a trophy during a winners’ event at Slessor Gardens, which was attended by representatives from Egbert Taylor,…
