Getting waste collection down to a T
Over the last two years I’ve turned into somewhat of an evangelist. Not about a particular TV show, trend or latest fad. No, my chosen topic is, sadly, waste. Actually, I’m not sorry. In fact, those who’ve read my recent day in the life piece, which revealed how even on my honeymoon I was taking pictures of bins, will know that I am unapologetically (proudly, even) a waste nerd. And this brings me onto Egbert Taylor’s T-Lock. Whilst I’m not one for using blogs to actively promote a product, I will on this occasion on the basis that it is rapidly becoming…

Egbert Taylor builds UK team
Egbert Taylor, the 60-year-old Worcester-based container manufacturer, has its sights set on growing its presence in the South East of England after appointing waste veteran Frank Adie, who joins the business as Area Business Manager for London. Frank, who has worked in the waste sector for over two decades, joins Egbert Taylor from Viridor where he sold waste management services to the UK’s local authorities and private sector for 11 years. Prior to that he worked with Johnston Sweepers and Munitech, where he specialised in selling aftermarket parts and waste services. Whilst majoring on London, Frank will also work closely…

The Durham dynamo: A day in the life of … Kevin Docherty, Area Business Manager at Egbert Taylor
I started at Egbert Taylor back in June 2010, having joined from the fireplace industry. I had worked at a North East-based British fireplace manufacturer for 14 years and by the time I left I was the firm’s national key accounts manager. I left the role because the firm couldn’t compete with cheap Chinese imports, which is sadly something we’re now seeing in the waste container manufacturing sector, too. This is changing in a post-Covid world, though. People have started to realise that it doesn’t matter how cheap a product or material is if you can’t even get it into…

Great Scot!
We’re delighted to announce that Egbert Taylor has retained its place on Scotland Excel’s Supply and Delivery of Recycle and Refuse Containers procurement framework. This is incredibly important to us for the following reasons: It means that we can continue supplying local authorities in Scotland (and that councils in the country can readily buy steel bins from us) We can continue to build our longstanding relationships with Scottish local authorities – many of which have been in place since the 1960s, when Egbert Taylor (or Taylor, as it was then known) first opened its doors Given how Scotland Excel evaluates companies wishing…

It’s all about brand (and real ale): A day in the life of… Steve Tuffy, Logo Production Manager at Egbert Taylor
Like several members of the team here, I’ve been with the business for many years – 26, in fact. I began on the finishing line and have moved around the company since, which I think is one of the reasons I’ve stayed so long. It’s always interesting and there’s always something new to learn. However, my current role, which I’ve been doing for three years, is great and indulges my creative side. I’ll get on site for around 7am and power up the machines. We have industrial printers capable of printing vinyl surfaces as big as the panels that form…

Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Planner: A day in the life of … Iain Smith, Production Planner at Egbert Taylor
I’d say the team at Egbert Taylor are morning people, as the majority of us are on site and raring to go early doors. I’ll typically start my day at 7.30am, although early mornings are now ingrained having spent six years as an Assault Soldier. After serving in Afghanistan in 2009, and as someone whose responsibility it was to build defences and sweep for improvised explosive devices, you’re constantly on high alert. Admittedly, the shift from metal tanks to metal containers isn’t really comparable. However, as they say, ‘the early bird catches the worm’. As Production Planner, I act as the…

Bins to bikes and back again: a day in the life of Tony Nunn, General Manager at Egbert Taylor
I’ve been with Egbert Taylor for 38 years now. When people ask why I’ve stayed so long, my answer is always loyalty, and the fact that Egbert Taylor has always provided countless opportunities to progress within the business. In 1982, when I first walked through the factory doors, I was a final assembly operator; my role was to bolt wheels onto the steel bins. Whilst we use air tools these days, the basic process remains unchanged, which is testament to the quality workmanship that has gone into each and every unit we’ve produced since day one. Now, as General Manager,…

BIN BRITAIN!
We’re only just getting over a global pandemic, so let’s not dwell on how it impacted UK organisations overly reliant on imported bins (or materials required to build bins, for that matter) other than to say that international supply chains were hugely affected. Instead, let’s celebrate six benefits of buying British products – with a focus on ours in particular. 1. Keeping it local 94 per cent of ALL of our raw materials comes from within a 50-mile radius of our factory. We don’t import our steel thousands of miles from China. We have it delivered from steel merchants in the Midlands that source…

The wonder of the weld: a day in the life of Lee McDermott
I’ve been at Egbert Taylor for over 20 years and I can honestly say that there’s no other manufacturer that welds to the quality we do. The whole team are time-served welders, all trained to NVQ Level 2 and above, and the intricate work that everyone can do is something that I still find impressive even to this day. It’s also this level of craftsmanship that sees us winning major orders from prominent brands such as Nissan and local authorities nationwide on a regular basis. It’s an early start, particularly for me, as I need to be onsite at 5.30am…
